Blog Tour: Review: Spurs &Stilettos by Ashley Johnson

Hope Trahan has everything

she wants and everyone she needs…except her sister and someone who really is

deserving of her. Who knew two separate events would turn everything completely

upside down? When her best friend drags her down to the rodeo to help clear her

head the last thing she expects is to meet a sexy, sweet talking cowboy. That's

not what she came for but fate had other things in mind.

Wesley Tyler owns two national titles and is riding his way to the next. The

day he meets Hope, he knows there's no going back. He soon learns Hope carries

ghosts with her she can't quite shake. She holds things she wishes she could

let go of. Wesley just may hold the key to helping her overcome it all. Can he

win her over and help mend her broken walls or will her past hold her down?

Even though it was an enjoyable reading, I can't honestly say that it was the most spectacular book that I've had the pleasure to read, but it wasn't a horrible book either...

The story starts with Hope Trahan being dumped by her boyfriend. Honestly? It was a little obvious what their problem was from Hope and Brad's interaction. She was letting him get away with every decision! If Brad wanted her to stay home and not to go to that rodeo, she was going to let him win that argument. If he want's sex on the night she's tired and simply wants to rest, well he has his methods and she's letting him have his way with her. But... that's normal in a relationship, right? Compromise and all that stuff? Well, let me tell you what is not normal... His fiance working longer hours and always being tired, but most of all that little episode when his phone rings and he simply stops their lovemaking to respond....

Portia Summerhill feels like a loser.

Thirty-something, jobless, and living at home… How could she not? Next to her accomplished sisters, Portia's achievements—or lack thereof—are that much more noticeable.

The one thing Portia can claim is expert knowledge on antiques and her ancestry, and in a moment of serendipity, the perfect job lands in her lap: curator at the Museum of British Peerage. There's one caveat: the museum won't hire her unless she brings the family jewels with her. Or, more specifically, the infamous Summerhill tiara.

Except a cowboy hotelier stands between her and her tiara. Jackson Waite needs help getting his newest posh hotel launched and, luckily for Portia, he's willing to make a trade. If she helps him meet the deadline for his new resort, he'll give her the tiara. Only, the more time she spends with Jackson, the more Portia wonders if she wants the tiara or the man keeping it from her.

Review:

Well... I didn't expect to read a story about another Portia so soon, but life is full of surprises...

So, I liked this story it was sweet and very romantic, more so if we have in mind that this story involves a strong willed woman, who needs to reorganize her life and find her own happiness, after her father's death, but I think she was more disturbed when she finds out about his second family (and another sibling) and about his poor skills in business management. But the icing on the cake was finding out that he sold their precious Suncrest Park and all its content!

It was a horrible situation, and I could understand, somewhat, her disappointment. Imagine living all your life around artifacts and binding your time for the moment you are a grown up and finally, you can take in possession your dream house( more like mansion.. but that's a detail), just to be robed by your own father! No less! I would have been furious, and Portia is too but she can't do anything to prevent what has already happened, only to try and make it better.

Throw in a little mischief, drama, and one smoking-hot bartender and lines are sure to blur. But one thing's for certain, neither good-girl Maggie nor rebellious Clara will be satisfied until they each figure out where they belong.

Review:

How to best describe this book? Hmmm.... it's like a Shakespeare's piece with a little Gossip Girl throw in there. Really, it's more of a romantic comedy novel, so you can help yourself and lough out loud to their antics.

So... the story starts with Maggie Ryder who has recently been dumped by her boyfriend, Andrew Wellington, a guy who has been sleeping around with everything that moves, but Maggie was in love with her so she never observed his man whore moves. But, when this happens, suddenly, her twin sister starts to date him....

Yes... it's high treason and Maggie hates her even more if that can be possible (they had a very... competitive childhood while searching their father's attention since their mother is dead), and she has to prove that she's not desperate, even though she is, so she starts to search a a fake date in a bar, where Anita, a very friendly cougar has said she will find a hot man named Dean who can accompany her to this horrible party. And because, like I already said, she's desperate enough, she does it.

Genres: Romantic Thriller, Young Adult

Synopsis:

I’m going to make you wish you were dead.

Just a text. Seventeen-year-old Rebecca Hales tries not to worry. Probably a wrong number. Not really meant for her, and definitely not related to the crime she witnessed six years ago. Right?

Then two states away, a bomb goes off in her best friend’s locker. Soon Ryan is labeled a terrorist and runs to the safest place he knows—Rebecca’s house in small-town Wyoming. It doesn’t take long for the FBI to show up asking questions. Rebecca lies, of course, and says she hasn’t seen him.

Now she’s neck-deep in it with him, whatever “it” is. The only way out is to return to Vegas, where Ryan is a wanted man. The city of lies and illusion tests Rebecca’s wits as she struggles to find the person who framed Ryan and why.

Is Rebecca’s text linked to the bombing? And what does it have to do with a six year old murder? Rebecca needs to find out before she loses Ryan—and her own life.

Review:

BEST BOOK EVER! Okay, maybe on this year, but it was just so good, people. For all the fans of 'Gone Girl' out there, this is for you AND  for all the teenage and young adults, you MUST read this book like... RIGHT NOW.

Seriously, you don't see me so enthusiastic about a book, and in the mos cases I'm not, being a book lover will do that to you, but this book has been a mind fuck, I didn't know for one moment who the killer must be, and all the adrenaline is still making my blood pumping through my veins. PLEASE! PLEASE! For all the lovers of a good book out there, read it, or shall the Gods books make you regret this decision, and they exist I'll tell you that, I've had my fair share of sins and now I regret that lost time...

In the beginning we have Rebecca, who has nightmares and is terrified, but she doesn't show it because she's a tough girl like that, of a crime that happened six years ago when Kyle Rasmussen kills a girl after he raped her. It was horrible to hear that a golden boy, apparently perfect and the star of that city will do that to a innocent girl. But he did it, and Beck couldn't hide something like that, it's not in her character, and she tells this story to the cops. Kyle is arrested and condemned to spend some time behind the bars.

Blog Tour:Review: Monster by Francette Phal

Accidental Gold digger.
Circumstance forced Eden Mercer to sell herself to Dominic Armstrong for half a million dollars and in return she is to play the dutiful wife in public and submit to him completely behind closed doors.
The Tyrant.

Dominic is Ruthless, manipulative and sadistic but Eden is determined not to break under his cruelty. But how does one persevere when in the clutches of a Monster?

I don't really have words to define the impact that this story had over me.... Really Christian Grey is a child compared with Dominic Armstrong (Not about the BDSM part, because this story doesn't involve something like that- it's about his dominance, the power that he has, that he likes to have in the bedroom over Eden, but more about that later). So... this story begins with Eden trying to commit suicide in the Grafton Highlands, a party that she didn't want to go, but but his Master voice it's all that counts, not her. Yeah, you heard me right- I just said Master, you may ask yourself why I would use such a word to define her husband?

Review:

Did I ever tell you how much I love the myths? No?

Well... I ADORE this kind of stories, even from childhood, I was attracted to Family of Influence- agents of the Olympians, the Greek gods, on Earth and controls Earth, each family controls number of countries and they execute the agenda of the gods under the guise of presidents, monarchs and dictators, they chose the rulers, wether good or bad. They put them in power and when their time is up, they remove them from power.

The story centers around Siobhan and her way of falling in love with the Greek God Apollo. He is not only the God of the Sun and the Music, but he is also someone very seductive with a lot of interest on our beautiful woman. Siobhan is a virgin at 22, but that not only makes our male-amazing characters to become almost crazy for her, but he wants her desperately. Yet, Siobhan is not ready to let go. Fate bought them together for a reason and you can almost touch the tension between these two.

Even though she does not want to admit to their connection, she is clearly affected by him, but she does not give him the opportunity to get that idea into his head. Yet, his music could destroy every single iced heart out there, his music could bring you to the realms of heaven in no time. His music could make you scream in pleasure, his music could mend your heart. His is perfection when it comes to any aspect and Siobhan is the one that can get his attention, because he seems interested only in her.

But as any in her right mind woman, Siobhan finally decides it is time to act on her instincts. She offers him her virginity, but mostly because their connection is no longer undeniable. They continue to become their own and no one else's for weeks, but then the inevitable happens.

He leaves because of some complication, she hurt him even though she didn't intent to. But when she finds out that she is pregnant everything changes. Radically.

Will Apollo come back? Will everything change?

But in the same time, Apollo has an secret agenda, a plan that includes Siobhan and in the same time the future of humanity, a future that not many Gods agree to and obviously they will try to kill Siobhan and her unborn children without a second throught. So you will have not only romance, but action and drama in the same packet, a beautiful packet that presents a new vision on the stories that we all grew with...

But when the music stops playing, will they sell the home and go their separate ways or have they have built a sturdy enough foundation to last a lifetime?
Review:

A beautiful story that's the first words that comes in my mind when I think of Ryan and Portia's story. More so is sweet, and somehow, when I think about this story, I think  the title: 'Sway with me'... like 'Let go of your problems,  to your worst parts of your life and let the music take a hold of you...

You know that times when your life seems to be a constant circle of trouble and you can't find a positive fact in all your misery and then... pow... you have on your desk (or kindle) a sweet story, but it seems to only make your misery grow because the story's character have a better life than you have, and so to remind you... again... that life sucks?

Yep- that's how I was thinking those latest days when I had my book's copy and all my thoughts were concentrating on the worst aspects of my life, but then you start reading this story and the laughter comes naturally, all of the sudden life seems more easy and, certainly, less complicated then theirs and you realize that even though, the problems of your life can make your existence miserable, you'll always find your way through tin and that. You just have to stop and let it go...

But let's talk about the story... Ryan Sullivan is an ex-millionaire who had problems in the latest years because he's broke... you may ask yourself if his parents, his family is also broke. The answer will be no- his family, more exactly his parents are full of money and their life is perfect, so no, it is just him the only family member that doesn't have a cent in his pocket, but that is  because of his stupidity when it comes to women. So, when his Uncle dies and he answers to George, his uncle's attorney, he thinks that his friend Braden was pranking him. Once that he realized the layer meant business, Ryan didn't know what he did to deserve an inheritance, but he accept it anyway, because he wants with desperation to escape his financial problems  and be again in the good grace of his parents.

When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind.
Reality is much worse:
A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning.
I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude. The only information I have about my captor are the two small letters inked at the bottom:
J.S.
Armed with only my memories, I must do everything I can to avoid becoming ensnared in his twisted mind games. But in the end, it all comes down to one choice:
Resist and die.
Or submit, and sign my life away

Review:

This is not a love story, not even a BDSM story, really it's just the beginning of what seems to be a BDSM story, but I wouldn't know that, at least until it's published. Trough it seems short, the story presents Lily Ryder's life on how she became J.S's lover, from a kidnapped woman and before that a student searching for a job in his company...

My emotions when it comes to this story are a mixed, but that is an understatement of the year...
Really, in the prologue we find out more about her relationship with J.S than it's revelead in the rest of this story's part. I'm so not happy with J.S character, if all of Lily's assumption are true, but let's find more about her, shall we?

She's a student of Yale that she enrolled in an internship that requires to participate for an ad campaign , because she was the leader and her project was a real succes, she's been offered a year- long contract to stay with the firm through to it's launch and this way she was going to receive one hundred twenty thousand dollars for her job. Obviously, she's deliriously happy because, know she can pay the debt to her college and continue to see come to life her project. All seems wonderful, but what's the catch?

She must stay one year with the firm, and therefore quite her school in this time. You'll say: okay, she can come back after the project it's over and be a happy student without debts. Well... that was the plan until the firm has retired from the project and refuse to continue with the payment.

Now, she's jobless, she can't come back to Yale, until January and she can't go home because her relationship with her mom it's horrible. That's the moment when Jeremy Stonehart sweeps in like a knight from bedtime's stories and offers her a job in his company, a company that I might add it's the same one who was implicated in the project mentioned...

But Lily is reticent and she infuriates Jeremy Stonehart in the night when he was going to make his offer- whatever that was, because we don't find out...

And after this moment, she's kidnapped and presented a contract for one hundred eighty thousand dollars to pay her debt for the college. The catch?

To become J.S's slave...

Final Verdict- You may observe that I didn't say anything about the characters in this book and that's because we don't find out anything substantial about J.S or his history, all we really know is Lily's past- fragments of it and about her mom's issue, and her time as a captive until she accept this contract because now she seeks vengeance, but nothing else, so I will just that this book is a mystery even for myself and I can't wait to find out more about the reclusive Jeremy Stonehart ...

Review:

It is a book that even though it has a topic not so original, it brings in important issues of today's society and the integration of former prisoners into society and the role of women in a man's world. Of course, this does not mean that we will discuss profound issues of our society more or less sick, no way, because this book is based on a love story that defies time, and our heroes face to the above mentioned topics about their self and discover a relationship seemingly impossible ...

Gabby Ward, architect and builder, leading company that took over her father's death a tragic, although she's in College and about to fulfill his dream, to become a teacher, she becomes bound by situation to take over his business and try to keep his memory alive by keeping the company alive ...

Obviously, it is not as easy as it seems, although she's doing great for an inexperienced person, life is not easy when you are a woman in a man's world, so the situation requires it to adopt urgent decisions, including beg to the brother of her best friend, Casey Markham, to give  her a chance to rebuild the bar to which he is the owner.

Hunter Markham is the deepest and Gabby's terrible secret ....

Initially, she loves like a brother, just grown up together, and she and his little sister were inseparable friends, which means that Hunter always had a weakness for Gabby's introverted and innocent self, but once she grows up, the problems beginning to make an appearance due to the attraction that arises between two or so Gabby thinks. Frankly, the attitude and her personality reminded me of Ellie Carmichael, moreover  if we considerate the resemble on the relationship between Ellie and Adam, but of course, similarities will end with the beginning of chapter one ...

So, Gabby woman up and make the big step when she is next to Hunter, alone, after a party, but for with utter disappointment and humiliation, he coldly refuses and avertizeză not to try again something like that. The Gabby's dreams are shattered and the dreamer girl is replaced with a girl hard and sometimes cruel to Hunter ...

But even Hunter has his own secrets ...

Hunter Markham, one of the most famous and champion to a pretty dangerous sport: surfer. He is the one who must assume responsibility for the family and do what is right now that their life is about to be changeable again ...with the release from prison of his twin brother, Brody, so he gives up all the possibilities that were opened before him and returns home, purchasing a near by bar with money that he obtained from the surf.

But to start this business needs professional help and the Gabby's bid is the most attractive from them all, pity that his possible business partner .. is too.

Of course, there is the small problem that happened five years ago when he got the most perfect kiss of his life,  from his sister's friend, so he panicked and therefore reacted violently to it because of his emotions like anger and repulsion (to himself) and ran. Since then, the friendship between them became strained for themselves and for the others ...

But now he returned, and the sweet and innocent girl has morphed into a charming woman, confident and passionate, and his career, and distance of hundreds of miles between them, and her innocence are gone and he's free and eager to bring her in his bed, if only that would be so easy ...

Gabby knows that she shouldn't approach Hunter and she's willing to do anything to stay away from him and his advances, including the opportunity to drop the extremely advantageous  offer and tell him what she really thinks of someone like him. If only it would be so easy ...

Slowly the two approached each other, and when this happens, sparks of a fire that they thought to be long extinguished, and what begins as a relationship based only on sex and passion are transformed in a trusting relationship and friendship, and this time they will be together, right?

Of course, if only Hunter's ex-girlfriend, Sasha, will stay away ...

The narration is done from the first person, from the perspective of Gabby and Hunter's, and their feelings and emotions are well expressed with the voice of these characters. I want to warn you that although the subject seems complicated and full of angst, the story is more easily tolerated because of said characters and even though some scenes will be descriptive, they will not bore the reader, not only that, but they will him carry between the pages of this book. Another interesting aspect is that this book is approaching the style of the famous  J.Lynn.
Characters:
Gabby-initially, I fail to understand the heroine, because of her naivete, and then she seems too unstable to me, her temperament too much during the novel, though she's maturing a lot, and finally, I came to admire her determination and confidence in her lover ( I  must confess that I can not say tho have trusted him  that much, if I were in her shoes) and this change is turning her into one of my favorite characters of this year.

Hunter is a complex character, dramatic, dark ... Kidding! Hunter is relaxed, confident and simply in terms of his personality, he focuses on what he wants and will do anything to get the desired result. The only time he doesn't follow this pattern, it's in the beginning when he was shocked and did not know how to react.

Sasha-although I doubted very much about her, like Gabby and Casey, I have come to the conclusion that this character is very well created, so to mislead the reader, the latter being convinced that hesees a character with two faces, when, in reality, Sasha  only acts for Hunter's happiness ...

Brody-quiet, dark, with a  past painfull and full of demons, he's facing many problems, such as the trauma induring trough prison and his reintegration into our world... the others, friends and family try to help him, but it's not easy due to the construction of this character. I admit that I'm  very curious about him and can not wait to hear his story in the book #2, where we will see him with Alyssa Myers, one of Gabby's best friends .

Final Verdict-On the Rocks is a story about second chances in life and how to take risks in said life, even when fate seems to conspire against you. A story about family, friends and the strength to go on. A story about life ...

My Rating: 5/5
Recenzie:

Nota mea: 5/5
